The David DeHaven Ski Scholarship
The David DeHaven Alpine Ski Scholarship is presented to a member of the Brighton High School Alpine Ski Team who has demonstrated good academic and interpersonal skills and who desires to further develop his or her skiing abilities.

Applicants are required to:

  1. Read the program description to understand the scholarship's purpose and the academic and personal requirements for consideration.
  2. Write a letter describing your involvement with skiing, other interests and activities, and where and why you wish to go to camp. The letter must state the amount of scholarship money being requested. The letter should be one or two pages, typewritten, double-spaced.
  3. Mail your letter to:
    Office of the Athletic Director
    Brighton High School

Requests for ski programs held during the December school break must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of the holiday vacation. Requests for summer programs must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the Ski Team banquet.

A student is eligible to receive this scholarship no more than two times. Awards are limited to students who will be on the BHS ski team following the ski camp experience, so seniors are not eligible beyond Christmas break ski camps.

If applying for a summer program, the student should estimate costs based on that camp's fees from the previous year. Scholarship awards cover the ski program tuition, as well as room and board for residential programs. Once the current year's actual camp expenses are available, the student will submit a copy of his/her camp registration form to the Scholarship committee.

Students are expected to provide their own transportation for local and regional ski camps. Those seeking to attend distant programs for which air travel is necessary should be prepared to pay their full transportation costs. Some aid for air fare may be available, but this will vary from year to year depending upon the Scholarship's resources. The committee will consider subsidizing some, but not all, of this cost if the Scholarship's resources are sufficient.
