Glazed ceramic work by Sara Botelho
2005 D. Bradley Smith Art Purchase Award Winner

Photo of the Artwork

Photo of the Artist Sara Botelho excels in many arenas ...including art. "I love working with clay," she says, and her love for the medium shows in her work. Using an earth-tone glaze to complement the organic form and textures of this piece, she created a work that is intriguing ...a work that begs to be picked up and examined closely and from several angles.

Sara's art experience at BHS includes both Studio Art I and Studio Art II, as well as Jewelry Making and Photography. In 2003, Sara won an Honorable Mention in the Scholastic Art Exhibit for a necklace she conceived and fabricated in her Jewelry Making class.

In addition to her coursework, Sara is an outstanding athlete, competing for Brighton in multiple sports: she was on the cross-country ski team during her sophomore year, the track team from her sophomore through senior years, and she was a member of the varsity soccer team during all four of her years at BHS. Sara also played Premier League soccer for six years!

Sara plans to travel to India for five weeks during the summer after graduation, through a program called Global Routes. She and thirteen other students from all over the US will deepen their understanding of Indian culture through home stays and service work. Shortly after she get home, she'll head off to the University of Toronto, where she plans to study art, history, and anthropology; she has not yet chosen a major.
