This new fund, launched in 2003, will generate a stream of income to underwrite cultural life programs in the schools. Field trips, speakers, authors' visits, and artists-in-residence are all in need of our support. An endowment fund will provide a recession-proof source of funding for programs that inform, programs that inspire, programs that uplift.

inform... inspire... uplift

It is our goal to build an endowment of $250,000 over the next five years. Such an endowment will fund several in-school programs in each school every year, as well as a limited number of field trips.

The drive will include three distinct thrusts:

  • we will seek significant individual donations
  • we will seek the support of three broad audiences through a direct mail campaign
  • we will stage an exciting new event during the holiday season

Bright Lights of Brighton

Logo: Bright Lights of Brighton

As one element of the Cultural Life Endowment Drive, BEF staged "Bright Lights of Brighton," an event that celebrated the arts and highlighted the accomplishments of Brighton alumni who are building careers in the arts. The event served as both a fundraiser and a "friend-raiser."

The event was envisioned as a celebration and a reunion, with twelve artists invited to perform, an on-stage reunion of the Brightones, and a reception following the performance. The evening also included an auction of visual artworks donated by alumni artists.

The event was held on the evening of Sunday, December 28, 2003. It was a smashing success, and the performers enjoyed themselves almost as much as the audience did!
