"Self Portrait 4"
Triptych by Renee Heininger
2005 D. Bradley Smith Art Purchase Award Winner
Renee Heininger created this dramatic triptych in her senior year, as part of her Portfolio Preparation class. Her first experiment in manipulating photographs using the computer, the three elements feature her mother Susanne and her sister Lauren, as well as the self-portrait referenced in the piece's title. Of the colors, Renee admits that "people would associate neon colors with me."
A Brighton student from Kindergarten through 12th grade, Renee took advantage of almost every art course that BHS had to offer, including the new Sculpture course during her senior year. As a freshman, she created a pencil self-portrait that won a Gold Key for drawing in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. She spent the summer before her senior year painting with Rochester artist Peter Macon, whose work is featured at the new Port of Rochester ferry terminal.
Renee is talented athlete as well as an artist, competing in the travel soccer league for six years, on the varsity field hockey team, and the varsity ski racing team, but her other real passion is music. She plays three instruments -- guitar, flute, and saxophone -- and plans to major in Music Business and minor in Studio Art at NYU, combining her strengths to conquer the music industry with brilliant album cover art and marketing materials. Is that cool, or what?!?
