Sculpture by Macrina Jeary
2025 D. Bradley Smith Art Purchase Award Winner
Macrina's piece is called Anxiety. Constructed of plaster paper and acrylic paint on a wire frame, the sculpture depicts a brain trapped by anxious thoughts and how they cause pain in the connected heart which is stuck with long pins.
Macrina has always been an active artist. Prior to high school she mainly focused on 2-D mediums, drawing and painting but in high school she fell in love with working in 3-D. Her artwork includes sculpture, pottery, and photography.
This year as a public service project she contacted animal shelters about their needs and then made and donated 21 ceramic dog bowls.
Macrina enjoys performing aerial arts, which she also teaches at Aerial Arts of Rochester. Next fall she will begin a major in photography at Monroe Community College.
