"Self-Portrait in Silver"
Silver Pin by Elissa Klein
2002 D. Bradley Smith Art Purchase Award Winner
Elissa attended every art class offered at Brighton High School. She developed this silver pin as part of her AP Studio Art class, which emphasizes independent study. The piece began life as a photograph, which she used to provide the basic contours. She carefully sawed all the intricacies and polished the top layer of silver, then bonded it to a second layer of oxidized silver.
Elissa enjoyed exploring a wide variety of media in classes at the Creative Workshop of the University of Rochester's Memorial Art Gallery. She will continue her art studies at Williams College as part of a liberal arts curriculum, with a likely concentration in math or science.
