"Myself in Colors" Amanda enjoyed her art studies in Brighton tremendously. "The art program here provides amazing opportunities," she said. "I was very pleased with how far I could go." In addition to studying painting, drawing, and ceramics in Brighton, Amanda took classes at the Memorial Art Gallery, Genesee Pottery, and Nazareth College. Amanda was also the art editor for Galaxy, the literary magazine at Brighton High School. Amanda was responsible for the cover design, and the publication included two additional pieces of her artwork. Amanda enjoyed the community service work she did through the Art Club at BHS. Club members did art projects with after-school groups at the Wilson Commencement Park on a monthly basis. Amanda and other members of the BHS Women's Awareness Club also volunteered at Sojourner House, where she worked on childrens programs including art projects and field trips. Amanda will continue her study of art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She envisions herself as an illustrator of childrens books. photo and story by Jim Kane
